Regardless of your age, gender, ethnicity or even how big or small your dreams may be, self-confidence and self-esteem, coupled with a healthy dose of belief in your potential, are the crucial ingredients for inviting any level of sales success into your experience. No matter how amazing the product or services you are selling may be, you are ostensibly selling yourself. People buy the full value proposition, which obviously includes the products and services, but most importantly they buy the value you the sales professional ads to the offering. The final buying decision is always an emotional one, in which the buyers final decision is based on the value the sales person adds to the deal. You can only bring great value to any sales experience if you believe in yourself and what you have to sell.

You get Branded everyday
We all know that people should not judge each other and that they should look beyond the obvious outside appearance of other people. But unfortunately people do judge each other. Just as products or services are branded as the best, cheapest, Ineffective, good value for money, or unreliable, so too are individuals branded too. They are either branded as winners or whiners, which one are you? The picture you project to the world about who you really are, speaks volumes. The challenge we face when trying to develop our self-confidence, is that many of us were forced to play inferior roles to adults as children.

These adults frequently reminded us of our faults and shortcomings, instead of supporting us to see our strengths and abilities. This has made us doubt ourselves and instead of keeping the commitments we make with ourselves to lose weight, improve our knowledge, and achieve any goals we set for ourselves. We instead doubt ourselves so much, that at the first obstacle we give up, reinforcing our lack of belief in ourselves. This forces us to doubt ourselves even further.

Your Opinion Matters the Most
No one else is responsible for you or how your life unfolds or for that matter how many sales you make or fail to make. It is for this reason that no one elses opinion about you matters. You are ultimately responsible for all your daily actions or lack thereof, so do not listen to the opinion of anyone else, other than as a means of gathering feedback. The only opinion, which matters, is your own opinions and beliefs, which will ultimately inspire you to take action daily.

Conversations with Yourself
Whether you are conscious of it or not, you are engaged in a running conversation with yourself all day. Your thoughts and ideas are talking to you, encouraging you to believe in yourself, guiding you to take positive actions to help you achieve great success or discouraging you by filling your head with all the reasons you may fail throughout the day. It is time to wrestle back control of these conversations and for you to teach yourself how to constantly speak to yourself in a supportive and re-enforcing fashion. Have you ever truly reflected on your path in life? What you want to achieve and what areas you would like to be successful in?

I'm sure you may have said to yourself a number of times "Gee, it would be nice to live like them, drive a car like that or be famous as they are", but in that context it is often just an emotional reaction to the status of another.

Sometimes you might visualize or have fantasies of a different existence.

Seeing yourself in the house you want or that car you have always coveted. Maybe you can see someone sitting behind the desk as the chief executive of the company, doing the work of the boss and instructing staff as only they would do and that someone, happens to be you.

Maybe it's a holiday with loved ones or a holiday where you meet a loved one?

We all at various times visualize our ideal life. Career, business, wealth and lifestyle even relationships, health and philanthropic pursuits

Now you need to take a moment to truly reflect on these future visions you have of yourself at various moments and bring them all together. Give each substance and make them tangible.

How do you make a reality out of fantasy?

How can you make these 'dreams come true'?

By writing them down.

You are going to be assigned as your own biographer to write a third person account of your future life. The life that you have always dreamed about, you are about to make it real! (For now at least, real in print).

Next write down a number of categories such as career, business, wealth, creativity, lifestyle, relationships, family, health and philanthropic pursuits etc. and number them in order of importance. What you would like to achieve first or what needs to be done before the next.

Now take a weekend, a week a month or longer to put down on paper exactly how you want your life to pan out. Lock yourself away in a room, go camping in the wilderness, a cabin, the seaside, somewhere in solitude where you can meditate and find the path within yourself.

Assign dates to tasks (specific by month and year) so you have a definite goal to fulfill. Always writing in the third person like such:

"By February 2010, Frank will be successfully running his own graphic design business, he easily negotiates a large contract that he can easily and skillfully deliver in the timeframe of..." or "In October 2009 Sarah takes a holiday to Phuket where she has an instant connection with a man and they spend many hours just getting to know each other..."

Continue to write in this style for each category. Be as detailed as possible, close your eyes and place yourself at that very moment. Feel the emotion, experience the moment then write both what you see and feel.

Writing in this manner can have a number of benefits.

Firstly it can save time. Living an experience out on paper will often tell you if it is worth pursuing.

Secondly, by writing it down you are releasing the thoughts from your subconscious and allowing them to take seed in the conscious.

Another benefit is that it gives you a daily or weekly reminder of your ultimate goals. So when those opportunities in life come along to fulfill your path you are less likely to miss them.

Once you have your future biography written, read it once or twice a week, take actions based upon it, react positively to situations in tune with it and head on your destiny to become Famous By Morning!

The use of M&A has been a recommended way to grow a business.

Nonetheless, not all businesses want that. And excellent question to ask is, "is growth for growth's sake the only idea"?

There are many compelling reasons endorsing it as the finest technique.

Big organizations are in top positions. Large companies both have better financing and access to new money. In addition, they're able to negotiate better deals with business partners. The gigantic businesses generally can survive the largest business cycles. Often customers think of these larger enterprises as being better suited to supply their needs. Large businesses can withstand their competitors easier. Most of the time, it's easy for them to retain advisers and consultants. New employees are much easier for them to attract and train. Most big companies can give better benefits. And, the list goes on considerably.

Most investors look on the larger companies as being more valuable than smaller ones. Their large size makes for splendid economics. Case in point, they can tackle the biggest projects successfully. These large companies generally have a pile of cash in reserve. Most of the time a big business can expect higher multiple from potential investors.

Let's look at an illustration.

Suppose we have two smaller businesses, one generating $10 million with a profit of $1 million. The second slightly bigger company with a topline of $20 million and a bottom line of $2 million. [willing tovestors] might be willing to invest 3 1/2 million dollars for the small company and in the neighborhood of $7.7 million for the slightly larger business. This assumes that each of these two small companies is priced at a multiple of 3.5 times profits. Earnings are calculated prior to taking into consideration interest, taxes, depreciation; and, amortization. This calculation is generally considered EBITDA. Added together the two enterprises are valued at $11.2 million. That total is the mathematical value of the two businesses if they were purchased separately.

However, when the two businesses are joined together a person would expect a smaller operating cost. Generally on account of of the reduction of duplicate departments and functions. These savings would include items like rent, salaries etc.. So, let's assume a $600,000 overall reduction. This means that EBITDA would increase from $3.2 million to $3.8 million total.

Plus, it's likely the multiple will also increase. The total top line would now be $30 million. The multiple might go up from 3.5 to 3.75 or 4.0. This could increase the total price up to nearly $15 million. That calculates to an extra $3-$4 million. That's a pretty attractive increase and could cause the two owners to join their businesses.

Of course, there are many warning signals connected with M&A's activities even though the extra money is very very attractive. This means it is a wonderful method to use to grow a company and a business' value.

What is Consulting?

Consulting is a process followed by specialist experts who have a wealth of business and management experience, to identify structural and organisational areas of concern, ascertain their causes and develop solutions to overcome them.

Management consulting is a discipline and profession which covers the totality of change affecting an organisation and could produce solutions for problems ranging from a loss of market share to bottlenecks in production, from a lack of customer confidence to inappropriate management structures.

Training consultancy is an implicit part of organisational development and looks at using learning and developing solutions for skills gaps or skills weaknesses within the organisation's workforce.

Financial consultancy is a discipline followed by financial experts who are able to examine the financial sector of the organisation, identify areas of weakness and structure solutions to overcome those areas of weakness.

The Consultancy Process

In the first instance the consultant is reliant on the management team recognising that there is a problem which has to be solved. When there is a problem which the management team do not recognise it as such, that in itself is a problem.

Sometimes the consultant has to look very hard and asked quite pertinent probing questions to be able to find the real underlying causes for the manifested problem areas.

As you may appreciate this can be quite difficult on occasion, especially when there are unreceptive line managers, or people who are seeking to preserve their power base by telling you what they think you want to hear.

Through asking the appropriate questions the consultant is both trying to identify the real areas of concern, established a rapport with the client, as well as her own credibility. All of the qualifications under the sun will have brought the consultant will and it is only their skills, experience and knowledge which will take them forward.

Once an understanding is obtained the customer will produce a specification document which will outline the problem areas, present one or more solutions and make a recommendation. The consultant will have developed enough detail within each of the solutions presented for the client appeal to make a decision. And that decision will be required before any progress can be made.

There are two types of management consultancy. The first type focus on the strategic picture and on producing what they see as the solution. They do not take any part in the implementation and evaluation of that solution.

The second type are able to take the solution in which the client has agreed, advice on its implementation, or where required implement it and then participate in the evaluation.

Both types of management consultancy have their merits and are keen to add value to the client organisation.

This has been a challenging month for me on the home-front and so Ive been thinking about energyhow to have more of it to get through my (sometimes long) days. Have you ever known someone whos always a bundle of energy and you end up feeling more energetic after being with them? How about someone who comes into a room and seems to suck all the energy out of it within moments? What is the difference between these two people?

Have you ever had a day where you were so engaged in what you were doing that hours flew by in what seemed like minutes? How about the kind of day where time d-r-a-g-g-e-d on and on and minutes seemed like hours? What was the difference for you?

Its interesting how there are some people and activities which seem to give us more energy than they take, while others seem to take so much more than they give. We all need energy to function in our daily lives-it's the fuel in our tanks that keeps us going. How full is your energy tank right now? If youre running on less than a tank, dont worry! This article will explore ways to maintain a steady and healthy energy level so that you are ready for the road ahead!

There are many sources of energy we can use for motivation and fuel. Predictably, some are healthier and more sustainable than others. Below is a summary of some unhealthy energy sources, followed by some more healthy alternatives. Check off those that you use to keep you


Like leaded gasoline, these sources of energy are commonly used and they do workbut at a significant physical, mental, and emotional cost. It all depends on how much of them you use and how often.

Adrenaline: this is the fuel of choice for the stressed-out and over-scheduled. Adrenaline gives us that jolt to keep moving when wed otherwise be overwhelmed. You might be relying on adrenaline for energy if you are constantly rushing, often arriving right on time or a few minutes
late, work best under pressure, or often find yourself struggling to fit in last minute interruptions and issues.

Conflicts, problems or crises: some people constantly find themselves fire-fighting and running from one problem to the next. When no problems present themselves, they may go looking for one to solve. You may be using problems or crises for fuel if you find that you feel the most alive or on when faced with a high level of drama, or if you recognize that drama and problems are a constant presence in your life.

Sugar, Caffeine, Alcohol, Drugs: these can be a source of instant energy in a pinch. However, if you rely upon caffeine or other substances to start your day, and turn to it throughout the day to keep from crashing, you may be over-relying on this unhealthy source of energy. Sugar or alcohol is often used in combination with caffeineto calm you down after a stressful event or day. Using substances to keep you going can become a problem if it is your main source of energy and you find that at the end of the day you feel completely drained or out of gas.


While the sources listed above do give us energy, it is generally short lived energy and will quickly require another fix to keep you going. In contrast, the healthy energy sources are much more sustainable. This means you have a more constant amount of energy without the peaks and valleys characteristic of the noxious sources. Another distinction between the two is that with healthy sources of energy you don't end the day with that exhausted, totally drained feeling that comes from burning noxious fuel. Here are three great sources of energy.

Energizing People: we all have people in our lives who somehow give us more energy when were with them. Think of those relationships (personal or professional) where you are left feeling light and energized. How can you build more of those relationships into your life while
minimizing or eliminating draining ones?

Healthful foods: while each person is different in terms of what foods fuel their body the best, it is clear that consistently eating proteins and carbohydrates (not the sugar laden ones) does keep us going in a healthful way. What foods work best for you?

Energizing Activities: certainly it would be nice if we could just do the things we love to do, but that's not always realistic. It is possible, however, to build more energizing activities into your day. Do you get so caught up in gardening, biking, painting, dancing, or cooking that you lose sense of time? This is a sign that the activity is energizing for you. It doesnt have to be a big time commitment to be energizing. Simply listening to your favorite music can refuel you. Or surrounding yourself with flowers, colors you love, pictures, or pets. What are your energizing activities?

3-2-1 ACTION!

We can and do choose our sources of energy and motivation. Some of our choices give us positive energy that lifts us up and brings out our best. Others ultimately weigh us down and drain us of our spirit. If you are ready to get energized, heres the 3-2-1 action for this month. I guarantee youll feel more alive and light than before you started!

Identify your 3 most energizing activities. What are those activities or experiences which leave you feeling full rather than drained? Write them down.

Now, write down 2 noxious sources of energy you use regularly. Think about when you use this source and how often.

Select 1 noxious source of energy you will eliminate for the next 30 days and choose 1 or 2 energizing activities off your list to replace it. Write it down and post it where you are most likely going to need it! (over the coffee pot perhaps?)

You know what you can do in your personal life to reduce your impact on the environment. You make a good effort to implement as many ideas as you can.

The question is: Will those actions be enough to produce the results we need to see?

Imagine the impact each of us could have if we used our work time (over 2000 hours a year) to reduce the damage we've done to the Earth and minimize the damage we will cause as we move forward.

Although you might think you have to have a scientific background to be part of the solution, that's not true. Review this list of ten ways to green your career to discover what part you might be able to play using your current skills.

1) Environmental Careers - These jobs entail working on the front line--working in the environment to help nature in some way. In many cases the goal of these jobs is to undo the impact humans have had on the Earth over the preceding decades and centuries.

Scientists and those who support them work with elements of the natural world - the land, the soil, the water, the atmosphere, the wildlife, the forests, and the fish.

2) Energy - The careers in this segment are focused on the energy puzzle. How do we shift our energy sources away from fossil fuels and toward renewable energy sources in a profitable, cost effective, streamlined way?

There's a research angle to this segment as well as a technical side of putting the pieces in place to produce or harness the energy.

3) Green Products and Services - Existing businesses and start up businesses are stepping up their production of green products and services. Whether these products and services change how we live, eat, clean, travel, invest, decorate, or build, they lessen the impact we have on the Earth.

Jobs in these businesses involve manufacturing, distributing, marketing, selling, and supporting these products and services.

4) Green Innovation - This is the cutting edge of the green sector. If you listen to the news, you'll learn about new innovations almost every day. In just the last week I've heard of:

~~ A laser television (that runs on a fraction of the energy it takes to run a traditional television)

~~ A mini solar panel that can power your cell phone or laptop

~~ Three new start ups in my hometown that are:

1. Developing a carbon nanotube that can be used in solar cells

2. Creating a way to mass produce cellulose ethanol out of leftovers from the agricultural industry such as corn husks

3. Developing a way to harness electricity from coal without burning it

Although the first stages of this process are highly technical, as these companies get ready to turn these ideas into products and services, other positions will open up. Furthermore those who work on policy and direction play an important role in how successful the innovations are.

5) Implementing, Systematizing, Manufacturing, Distributing - Getting these innovations to a place where they can be reliably produced and efficiently distributed will be key. Roles will vary by product, but this is where the hands on work will get done. Plenty of career opportunities here as various product lines mature.

The modern world changes very rapidly. What was true and accepted a few years ago is now laughably wrong. How a person thinks is defined by a set of ground rules- a set of constants unconsciously put down by a person for himself, but, in a world that changes this fast, no ground rule is really valid for long. This results in confusion in people. What does this suggest? We need to change how we think. The world isnt as simple as it used to be a decade ago. To stay from being overwhelmed, we need to evolve our mentalities; we need to get our minds organized so that they can efficiently cope with the deluge of information and problems that are thrown at us each and every day.

One thing we can do is train ourselves for parallel thinking; thinking about one issue in one mindset at a time instead of confusing ourselves with trying to differently process several issues in one go.

Most people are used to thinking in the adversarial way- one person puts something on the desk while another tries to wipe it off to the floor- you always look at things in a negative way. While this works pretty much alright for a two-man discussion, it can cause problems when several participants are involved; one reason being the competitive nature innate to this kind of discussion which allows for the idea of winners and losers where they are not necessary or applicable. This leads to eventual frustration. This two-sided approach doesnt benefit a lot from added manpower either; four men arguing is no better than two (a discussion having an outward air of calmness doesnt necessarily mean that its calm, an adversarial discussion is still an argument, no matter whether the participants appear frustrated or not)

Parallel thinking doesnt involve this kind of frantic racing. In parallel thinking for example, all the positive points of a matter are lined up first by everybody without following each point with an analysis, then all the negative points are lined up, it is only after all aspects of the problem have been accounted for that shooting proceeds. This means that in a group discussion, no one is denying or contradicting a single person or entity without a full picture of the matter and when negative points ARE being sought out, everybody is doing it at once keeping any blame from falling on an individual.

One of the best systems for parallel thinking is the Six thinking hats system. The specialty of this system is the way it visualizes, materializes and clearly segregates the different mentalities used in processing an issue. This system depicts the separate mentalities that people use to analyze questions by colored hats as follows: Factual thinking- White hat, Emotional thinking- Red hat, Critical thinking- Black hat, Positive thinking- Yellow hat, Creative thinking- Green hat, and Processing thought- Blue hat. The advantage of this is that when a person switches mentalities, he only has to imagine putting on a differently colored hat and since the color of a hat is something very easy to remember, he remembers the mentality hes currently using and doesnt accidentally stray off to others.

It is often our most challenging moments in life that offer us the greatest opportunities to grow and expand. Take a real honest look at any challenges you have faced in the past. Are you better or worse off for having faced those challenges? Start to view all challenges as delayed opportunities waiting to be exploited.

Strive to see any roadblocks that you may encounter, on your way to living your potential as merely FUTURE OPPORTUNITY GENERATORS. When you train yourself to do this, you will completely change your thought patterns around challenges. This small shift in your thinking, will allow you to turn any challenges (big or small) into new opportunities far sooner.

While you don't want to ignore reality, you can learn to deal positively with negative people and events. There is no need to focus on the negative when a shift in your attitude can bring you learning and growth. This shift happens when you see any challenges or hardships as merely an opportunity to gain new experiences and knowledge.

Thank the challenging people that cross your path, for teaching you about yourself and for giving you the opportunity to learn the benefits of a positive mindset. These CHALLENGING PEOPLE, that are traditionally viewed so negatively offer an opportunity for SPIRITUAL AND PERSONAL GROWTH and teach you invaluable lessons that will help you to explore and utilize your brilliance.

If challenges and obstacles were the deciding factor in how everyones lives turned out then no one would attain success. The only difference between successful people and those that settle for mediocrity is that the former see challenges as things to overcome on their way to success and the latter see them as reasons not to even try.

Everything in life is a choice; you get to choose the manner in which you face any challenges. You can choose to face any challenges that come your way from a perspective of helplessness or you can choose to react to these same challenges, from a standpoint of personal power. When you practice the latter you are consciously optimistic and all challenges will be temporary and easily solved.

Your future is never dependant on what happens to you, but rather how you respond to what happens to you. Learn to look for the opportunity in every challenge you face. Remain positive in the face of adversity and allow challenges to become the catalyst that sparks new opportunities in your life.

Can we ever expect to live life free of challenges? YES! Seeing anything as a challenge is a choice. Change the way you view any "Challenge" and it can then become a DELAYED OPPORTUNITY, waiting for you to exploit.

Difficulties and challenges are inevitable throughout your life, choosing a defeatist attitude and allowing yourself to be beaten is always optional. The only difference between PERCIEVED FAILURE and a HIDDEN OPPORTUNITY is your belief about and your attitude toward challenges, obstacles and FAILURE.

When any problem forms a shadow over your life, do not waste energy trying to make it disappear by attempting to stamp it out or resisting it in any way. Firstly just alter the way you view any problem and see it simply as a challenge, which as you know, can be easily overcome, by shining the light of your determined energy on it

Leave the mistakes and absurdities from yesterday behind and allow them to only serve as lessons for today. Yesterday is simply the foundation of knowledge upon which you should build today, never a reason to encumber today. Fill today with your hopes and dreams and dont waste a moment on yesterday, it is gone forever.

Anything outstanding that has ever been achieved started out as only a dream, an idea in someones head. You can also create wonders with your dreams and hopes, if you also, nourish and protect them and accept that you will need to nurse them through challenges, until you get to make them shine as they become your new reality.

Rise to the challenge and realize that you have a unique capacity to shape your life, search around and especially within yourself for the kind of growth that will shape and fulfill you. This challenge may seem impossible, but the effort will most certainly be worthwhile. Remember even the highest mountain can be surmounted by building winding pathways.

There are stories of people who have had unconventional success that have given you inspiration in life. Such stories are so uplifting that they give you positive energy that enables you to do so much in life and look everything in a positive way. May be someone won a lottery when they really needed the money and when you heard about it, you started believing that anything is possible when you believe it.

A lady who lived near me once lost her job and could not be able to pay rent for quite a while. Previously she was a lady that kept to her- self and always paid rent on time and even at times in advance. The landlord become impatient with her and served her with an eviction notice. She was very pessimistic with life and never believed in miracles or extra ordinary things happening. Despite that, she was able to spend a few shillings she had saved earlier and went to the casino. In that one night, she managed to get so much money that she even bought a house that was next to where she rented.

Another student who was studying at a college in town also underwent a scenario that got me inspired. He was always early for class and even slept late trying to understand his school work but never really did the best in his exams. His friends and family always thought that he would never amount to anything in life but one day, his house help asked to help with his assignments. Everyone who heard about this laughed so hard saying what would a house help know about college. Even the boy at first was not sure but since he was in need of help he gave it a try. After a while of studying with the house helps assistance, the boy passed his final exams so well to the surprise of everyone. This taught everyone that they should never undermine people just by how they look and the boy learned that you can get so much help from the most unlikely person.

With the craze of social media everywhere, some people have termed it as a means of destroying relationships. While it is true some people have used to destroy their lives and lie to other, there has been some good around social media too. A lady who had her mother ill was stressed on where to get money for medical attention. Despite her good job, she had tried to raise enough money to take her sick mother to the hospital but it was not enough. Most at times we never know personally the people we communicate with on the social media platforms. Some people are strangers while others are true life friends. She updated her status about the stress she was facing and in a strange twist of events, her friends on the social media managed to raise enough money to pay for her mothers medical bills and also support her for a couple of months after. She was very thankful that there is still so much good in the world.

Another couple had lost their child at birth and become very angry at each other by putting the blame on one another. This almost split them apart but with therapy and practicing to love each other they rekindled their love life and soon as that happened, they were successful in bringing up two pair of twins, quadruplets. This change of attitude looked like it was almost what enabled them have such a wonderful family. All the above unconventional success was really ways that made people understand life better and with the right kind of attitude, you can move above and beyond your limitations.

The primary reason training is considered optional by so many business owners is because it's viewed more as an expense than an investment. This is completely understandable when you realize that in many companies, training and development aren't focused on producing a targeted result for the business. As a result, business owners frequently send their people to training courses that seem right and sound good without knowing what to expect in return. But without measurable results, it's almost impossible to view training as anything more than an expense.
Now contrast that approach to one where training's viewed as a capital investment with thoughtful consideration as to how you're going to obtain an acceptable rate of return on your investment. And a good place to start your "thoughtful consideration" is with a needs analysis.
As it relates to training and development, a needs analysis is really an outcome analysis--what do you want out of this training? Ask yourself, "What's going to change in my business or in the behaviour or performance of my employees as a result of this training that's going to help my company?" Be forewarned: This exercise requires you to take time to think it through and focus more on your processes than your products.

How would you like to see a permanent end to all of your problems?

We all have problems and our problems only end - when we do. The only people without problems are in the cemetery. Id like to stick around problems and all. How about you?

No matter what problems we have to face today, there is a solution, because we have nothing to deal with but our own thoughts. As long as we think that our destiny is in the hands of other people, the situation is hopeless. We need to confront our problems with courage, boldness and action.

Theres an old Chinese saying that goes, If you live with a problem long enough, it could eventually become a blessing. Within every adversity in life, there is always a seed of an equivalent or greater benefit. We have to look for it - find it - and act on it.

We learn courage - when we face danger. We learn patience - when we endure suffering. We learn tenderness - when we taste pain. We learn to prize true friends when false ones forsake us. We treasure health - when illness strikes. We learn to prize freedom - when we are in danger of losing it. Without trouble we would be like plants that have sprouted, grown, and been nurtured in the overprotected shelter of a hothouse -- too tender ever to live in the open.

How can we possibly become a strong person, if we have an easy life? The tougher it is, the tougher we have a chance to become if we choose to fight back. Tough times never last but tough people do.

When you see a highly decorated military person all dressed up with rows of battle ribbons and awards on their chest, you are looking at someone who courageously faced and conquered danger, hardships, adversities, problems, life-threatening situations, torture, injury, and heartbreak, watching their buddies die terrible deaths. These people had fortitude - the ability to endure and last. They wouldnt quit, give up or run away. Yes there were times, Im sure they knew, when they bit off more than they could chew, but through it all when there was doubt they ate it up and spit it out the records show they took the blows and did it their way.

We dont just get the sweet out of life without the bitter - wed like to, but we dont. The sun doesnt always shine; sometimes there are storms, tornadoes, earthquakes, car accidents, fires and death. No one escapes the problems of life. If it doesnt happen sooner in life, it will happen later.

We can overcome just about any problem, obstacle, or adversity that life deals us if we have a strong enough will. Where there is a will, there is a way. Create a bull-dog determination and a burning desire, that will eventually mow down all opposition.

Success is not measured by what a person accomplishes, but by the opposition they have encountered, and by the courage with which they have maintained the struggle against overwhelming odds.

Dont pray for an easy life, without problems pray to become a strong person. The higher you go in life, the more problems you will have to deal with.

When we read about the tools required to achieve success, very often we are told that if we really want to be successful, we must have persistence.

Persistence is the quality of never giving up when we encounter challenges. Of holding on to our dream. Of refusing to be discouraged no matter what the odds, no matter what happens.

And when you read the life stories of very successful people, they will often tell you about all the hardships they encountered along the way. They will tell you about the discouragement they occasionally felt when they encountered failure, and about all the people who laughed at them along the way.

And then they will often tell you that the reason they are successful today is because they were persistent. They perservered in chasing their dream, no matter what happened.

So if you have been facing a bit of discouragement while you pursue your dream, reading these success gurus can give you the boost you need to keep on doing what youve been doing. After all, persistence is the key to success.

Almost everyone says so.

And all those people who encourage you to be persistent are wrong!

Persistence can lead to certain failure if you do not apply persistence in the right way.

Let me explain what these people are leaving out when they tell you to be persistent.

Every day as I drive to work in the city where I live, I always see a middle-aged blonde woman who paces back and forth on the sidewalk in front of a big government building. She is always carrying a big protest sign. She smiles and waves at all the cars that pass.

Im not sure exactly what her sign says because the words dont really make any sense.

There seems to be something about an injustice that happened to her when her husbands pension was divided up during their divorce. And theres a few comments about a government conspiracy to cover up the injustice that was done to her. I guess what shes trying to accomplish with her protest is shes trying to get this divorce decision changed.

Every day, no matter what the weather, this woman comes out to walk back and forth for two hours in front of this government building and wave at all the people. Her smile never fails.

After the first two hours of protesting are up, she goes to another place downtown. She spends another two hours walking back and forth, smiling and waving, in front of a different building a few blocks away.

She has been doing this every day for at least seventeen years.

She is certainly persistent.

All that persistence and dedication for so many years does not seem to be having any effect, but she does not seem to notice.

If seventeen years of her walking back and forth carrying this sign hasnt had any effect, I dont think that one more day of walking with this sign is going to change the outcome of her divorce. But she is persistent in continuing her protest.

Probably every big city has a few people like this woman, people you can see standing on the sidewalk. People who spends years holding some sign that doesnt make sense.

These people can teach us all about the real value of perserverence and persistence.

These people are certainly very persistent, but usually they are not successful.

When success gurus tell us that persistence is an important quality on the road to success, they are often leaving out something important.

When successful people tell you that they got to where they are today because they were persistent, they are actually leaving out part of the story. A very important part of the story.

And the part that they are leaving out is this: They forget to tell you that before they were persistent, they had a goal, and they had a plan on how to get there.

And all along the way, after every step they took, they stepped back to evaluate the results to see if the results they were getting were the results they wanted. And if they werent getting the results they wanted, then they would change the steps they took.

These successful people did have persistence, but they were only persistent about holding on to their vision.

They were never persistent about the method they took to get to their goal.

All along the way, they were prepared to be very flexible and experiment to see what techniques and strategies worked best to get where they wanted to go.

Why do so many successful people leave out this important detail when they tell us the secrets to their success? Why do they so often neglect to mention that if a strategy wasnt working, they abandoned it quickly and moved on to another strategy?

I dont think that successful people deliberately leave out this key information because they have a conspiracy to keep other people from becoming as successful as they have been.

I think that successful people often leave out this key detail because they assume its very obvious to everyone already. They assume that everyone already knows that you test each step of what you are doing to see whether its working or not. And if its not working, you change it. And you keep trying new approaches til you get something that works, that gets you closer to the result you want.

People who admire persistence often use the example of Thomas Edison who kept trying to produce an electrical light bulb even after ten thousand failed attempts.

But people often forget that while Thomas Edison was persistent in believing in his goal, he was not persistent in the way he tried to achieve it. Thomas Edison did not repeat the same experiment over and over again ten thousand times.

Thomas Edison performed about ten thousand different experiments on his way to trying to find a practical electrical light bulb.

Every time he tried an experiment to produce an electric light bulb, he then backed up and took some time to evaluate the results. He figured out what was working and what wasnt working. Then he would try something different the next time. And he would keep track of the results.

So, remember this crucial difference the next time someone tries to tell you that persistence is the key to success.

Without taking some time to evaluate whether or not what you do is actually working, you can be persistent for years, and not achieve the goals you want.

So, if you want to be successful, be sure to hold on to your dream, but remember to check frequently whether the actions you are taking are getting you closer to your goals.
